Hydrological Methodology Evolution for Runoff Estimations at Ungauged Sites

چکیده
This review paper recites fundamentals of historical runoff estimation methodologies that were developed for ungauged drainage basins. Additionally, new approaches are also provided as extensions modern ones. Early calculations suggested towards the end 18th century, when there was no record availability rainfall or runoff. Some these have not been cited in scientific literature, but they frequently used by engineers practical hydrological different parts United States, especially Kansas. hydrologists aware shortcomings, hampered shortage reliable streamflow and data. These methods did consider recurrence intervals associated with designs, their drawbacks originated more from a useful hydrologic data rather than logical rational interconnection between causative resultant factors. With measured data, early studies considered daily total amounts design purposes, which continued until 1935 frequency maps published durations shorter 24 h. Frequency analysis advancement 1940s regional flood sites. The transition to frequency-based started 1950 onwards. It is main purpose this cite recent simple area rainfall, works. provides each approach so reader may become acquainted evolution studies.

Ensemble predictions of runoff in ungauged catchments
[1] A new approach to regionalization of conceptual rainfall-runoff models is presented on the basis of ensemble modeling and model averaging. It is argued that in principle, this approach represents an improvement on the established procedure of regressing parameter values against numeric catchment descriptors. Using daily data from 127 catchments in the United Kingdom, alternative schemes for...
متن کاملCalibration of hydrological model parameters for ungauged catchments
The parameters of hydrological models for catchments with few or no discharge records can be estimated using regional information. One can assume that catchments with similar characteristics show a similar hydrological behaviour and thus can be modeled using similar model parameters. Therefore a regionalisation of the hydrological model parameters on the basis of catchment characteristics is pl...
متن کاملHydrological ensemble forecasting at ungauged basins: using neighbour catchments for model setup and updating
In flow forecasting, additionally to the need of long time series of historic discharges for model setup and calibration, hydrological models also need real-time discharge data for the updating of the initial conditions at the time of the forecasts. The need of data challenges operational flow forecasting at ungauged or poorly gauged sites. This study evaluates the performance of different choi...
متن کاملSimulation of Flow Hydrographs at an Ungauged Site in Taiwan using a distributed rainfall-runoff model
Simulation of flow hydrograph at an ungauged site recently has attracted considerable attention. A distributed rainfall-runoff model not only can describe the spatial heterogeneity of physiographical and hydrological characteristics in the catchment, but also can simulate the hydrological processes inside the studied area. If a distributed rainfall-runoff model can be adequately verified based ...
متن کاملSelecting parameter values for the AWBM daily rainfall-runoff model for use on ungauged catchments
A new method of calibration of the Australian Water Balance Model (AWBM) daily rainfall-runoff model allows for errors in the estimation of areal rainfall over the catchment. The result of applying the method to a group of gauged catchments is the production of a single set of parameter values for the AWBM that can be used with any catchment in the group, or used to estimate runoff on ungauged ...
